Maine GOP Partners with RNC to Fight Expansion of Ranked-Choice Voting

AUGUSTA – The Maine Republican Party announced today that it is partnering with the Republican National Committee (RNC) in opposition to efforts by Democrats in Augusta to expand ranked-choice voting to general elections for state offices.

“Maine’s highest court and the State’s Democrat Governor Janet Mills both previously said that expanding ranked-choice voting would violate the State’s constitution, yet Democrats in the state legislature are still trying to force this through,” said Republican Party Chairman Joe Gruters. “The RNC is partnering with the Maine Republican Party to defend Maine voters from this attempt to change the State’s election laws right before this year’s elections.”

“Maine voters deserve elections that are clear, transparent, and constitutional,” said Maine Republican Party Chairman Jim Deyermond. “The Maine Republican Party is proud to partner with the RNC to push back against this latest attempt by Democrats to change our election laws in the middle of the game. Ranked-choice voting for state general elections has already been found unconstitutional, and we will fight to ensure the rule of law is respected.”
