Statement on Reports of Non-Citizens Voting

AUGUSTA -- Maine Republican Party Executive Director Jason Savage released the statement below in response to reporting by The Maine Wire that appears to show evidence of Maine allowing non-citizen voting in elections in several previous election cycles.

The integrity of Maine’s elections are a top priority for Republican voters and the Maine GOP has been fair-minded and diligent in reviewing and monitoring Maine’s election processes. The report from The Maine Wire raises the most serious concerns to date.

Like our national counterparts, we support ensuring our elections are easy to vote and hard to cheat.

“This report is troubling, and we call on Secretary Bellows to take swift and appropriate action. We must ensure that the votes of Mainers are not diluted by those who aren’t legally eligible to vote. Now that this has been exposed, a thorough review should be undertaken and an immediate report of findings should be made public for examination,” said Maine GOP Executive Director Jason Savage.
