Pledges to Cut Property Taxes by Raising Homestead Exemption and Lower Income Taxes
August 4th, 2026
AUGUSTA, ME — Today, the Bobby Charles for Governor campaign launched a new 30-second ad titled “Miles”. The ad highlights Bobby’s commitment to providing much-needed financial relief to Maine families through significant cuts to property and income taxes for Mainers, while drawing a sharp contrast with the current leadership in Augusta.
In the ad, Charles stands next to his 2015 vehicle with 269,000 miles on the odometer, noting that it “still runs better than Augusta”. He speaks directly to hardworking Mainers about the shared burden of skyrocketing property taxes, rising energy bills, and increased crime under the leadership of Janet Mills and Hannah Pingree.
“Janet Mills and Hannah Pingree have had their chance,” Charles states in the ad. “We’ve got higher taxes, higher energy bills, [and] more crime”.
To combat this, Charles outlines his concrete plan to immediately tackle the cost-of-living crisis. He pledges to cut property taxes by raising the homestead exemption and promises to lower state income taxes.
“Mainers are tired of paying more and getting less from their state government,” said Dale Crafts, Jr., campaign manager for Bobby Charles. “Bobby understands what it means to stretch a dollar and keep things running, just like his car. This ad shows exactly who he is fighting for: the hardworking people of Maine who need relief from rising taxes and a government that finally prioritizes them.”
The ad concludes with a resilient message from Charles, who promises to always prioritize the voters: “This old car has got some miles left on her. And so do I”.
“Car & Miles” will run on major digital and social media platforms across the state starting today. To watch the full ad, click here.
