AUGUSTA – In response to the House Democrat censure of Laurel Libby, Maine GOP Leadership released the following statement:
“Let me be crystal clear, we stand with Laurel Libby against this censure. This move is nothing more than a desperate attempt by Democrats and the media to change the subject from Janet Mills’ petulant fight with President Trump,” said Maine Republican Party Chairman Jim Deyermond.
“Every Republican in the Maine House voted against this censure of Rep. Libby and everyone on our team stands with her as well. Democrats started this culture war, but we intend to finish it,” said Deyermond.
“It’s no coincidence that just days after Janet Mills put over $250 million in federal education funding at risk so she could grow her national profile, House Democrats launched this attack,” said Jason Savage, executive director of the Maine Republican Party. “They are desperate to talk about anything but their failed budget, risky federal funding gambit and insane left-wing school sports policies.”
“Let’s keep our eyes on the most important issue here,” said Chairman Deyermond. “Democrats are putting safety and opportunity for thousands of Maine girls at risk to appease the failed culture warriors of their radical left.”
“And now, in a desperate attempt to silence a leading voice on the issue they are losing badly, they have stolen the vote of an entire House District, and those ‘men’ in charge of the House Democrat Caucus, have ‘silenced’ yet another woman,”said Deyermond.
“That’s not something that any good man I know would be proud of,” he concluded.
