MAINE GOP FILES FRAUD REPORT FOAA WITH MAINE STATE AUDITOR

Major Concerns Over State’s Handling Of Fraud Reports Require Answers

AUGUSTA – Today the Maine Republican Party announced they have filed a FOAA Request with Maine State Auditor Matt Dunlap related to reports of fraud filed with Maine State Government.

“After seeing reports of millions of dollars in overbilling in Maine’s welfare system and hundreds of millions of dollars in no-bid contracts, the taxpayers of Maine deserve to know what measures have been taken to protect them,” said Maine GOP Chairman Jim Deyermond.

Maine’s political left has rallied to defend non-profit groups that have, even according to the Mills Administration, overbilled our Mainecare system to shocking levels.

“Look just because these folks are politically connected doesn’t mean they’re above the law,” said Chairman Deyermond.

National media reports have indicated that the State Auditor received a whistleblower report from within one non-profit agency, Gateway Community Services, expressing grave concerns about the fraud he was witnessing.

“From what we can see in news reports, the biggest concern from Maine Auditor Matt Dunlap’s office was not the fraud being reported, but whether the whistleblower had told the feds,” said Deyermond.

The FOAA, filed with the Maine State Auditor, requests only statistical data for the number of fraud tips and claims, investigations and referrals, and can be fulfilled quickly.

“The people deserve to see the numbers and decide for themselves if anyone, anyone at all, is investigating these allegations and looking out for their interests,” concluded Deyermond.
