Maine GOP Applauds Appointment of Judge Andrew Benson as U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine
Augusta, ME — The Maine Republican Party extends its warmest congratulations to Judge Andrew Benson on his nomination by President Donald Trump to serve as the United States Attorney for the District of Maine. His decades of distinguished public service—both as a homicide prosecutor and as a respected judge—make him exceptionally well-qualified to protect Maine’s communities and uphold the rule of law.
Judge Benson’s nomination was lauded by Senator Susan Collins, who emphasized his “more than three decades of experience,” including fifteen years as a senior homicide prosecutor with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, and eleven years of service on the Maine District Court bench, where he was appointed in 2014 and reappointed in 2021.
As Chairman of the Maine GOP and a retired law enforcement officer, Jim Deyermond offers this statement:
“Judge Andrew Benson has earned the trust and respect of Maine’s legal community and our citizens through tireless dedication, integrity, and a record of putting justice first. His background as a prosecutor and judge gives him unique insight into Maine’s public safety challenges. I am confident that, once confirmed, he will uphold the law with firmness and fairness, and ensure that the people of our state are protected. The Maine GOP is proud to support his confirmation.”
The Maine Republican Party and Chairman Deyermond look forward to Judge Benson’s confirmation by the United States Senate and stand ready to assist in any way to secure his swift appointment.
